Adrienne Bennett Urges Mainers to Share Protest Posters on Social Media

April 19, 2020

BANGOR, ME – Today,  Adrienne Bennett, Republican Candidate for U.S. Congress (ME-2), released the following statement regarding Monday’s planned protests in Augusta.

“We need to send a clear message to Janet MIlls that we cannot close down our state indefinitely. The time has come for a plan to reopen. Maine needs strong leadership to save our jobs and reopen our economy.” Bennett said.

“I have made the decision to participate in tomorrow’s protests virtually, using the megaphone of social media to call on Governor Mills to do her job and develop a plan to safely reopen Maine. I urge all Mainers to post photos of their own protest posters, and flood social media with the clear message that the time has come to reopen our economy, to reopen Maine.”

Mainers have sacrificed to keep each other safe during this pandemic. President Trump has created the opportunity for Maine to lead and show the nation how a rural state can safely reopen while protecting our most vulnerable citizens – our elderly, our immunocompromised and our frontline health workers.”

Tonight, Bennett sent an email to her supporters urging them to create their own homemade protest signs and post them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Bennett will not attend the Augusta protest in person.

Friends,

Tomorrow, Mainers from across the state are hosting a peaceful protest in Augusta to urge Governor Janet Mills to develop a plan following President Trump’s guidelines to safely REOPEN MAINE!

We have all made sacrifices to slow the spread of COVID-19 and we must continue to take the virus seriously. Now it is time for us to use the real data and begin the process for reopening our businesses, and reopening our society.

I have decided to SHOW MY SUPPORT for tomorrow’s protest VIRTUALLY, and I’d like to invite you to join me in using Social Media to share our message that MAINE NEEDS A PLAN TO REOPEN, and it is time for Governor Mills to act.

PARTICIPATE VIA SOCIAL MEDIA – POST YOUR PROTEST POSTER!!!

HOW TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT ON SOCIAL MEDIA (during the next 24 hours):

1. MAKE A POSTER (examples included below for inspiration).
Any size is fine. Include the hashtag #REOPENMAINE on the poster. Use your creativity, please avoid vulgar language, name-calling, and any suggestion of violence. Let’s show our Governor and the media what Mainers really think!

2. TAKE A PHOTO of yourself holding the poster in front of you, clearly visible. Feel free to pose with your family, in front of an interesting background, wearing a mask, etc. HOLD THE POSTER forward so that it appears prominently in the photo.
